This morning I have red an interesting article in Croatian daily newspapers “Jutarnji list” which quite rightly examines the opportunities in congress tourism. Interestingly enough it is Croatia’s most photographed city of Rovinj which comes on the top of the list. Rovinj has a capacity to host some 20 000 business delegates and it is his proximity to five international airports that makes him popular with the businesspeople from around the world. Next on the list is the Croatian business most favorite: Opatija which is close to Rijeka and is also quite well connected via the motorway with the capital Zagreb. However, I have learnt myself a new “hotspot” word which is Green Riviera, in other words Zagorje region hills which not only offer the opportunities in congress but also in wellness tourism. Add to that sporting activities and gastro-enology offer of Zagorje region, proximity of four Middle Ages renovated castles, ideal for banqueting and incentives, this could be a right new hotspot for the business visitors. But others as well, all those tourists who seek quiet, relaxing breakaway weekends in one of Zagorje wellness centers and “termes”. Not being far away from the capital Zagreb is yet another advantage why people would choose this region.
Coming back to the Adriatic coast again, Sibenik is stealing the limelight of the congress tourism industry and its favorite hotspot of Vodice.
Last but not the least, it is Dubrovnik and that picturesque hamlet of Cavtat and it is Adriatic Luxury Hotel’s Croatia who is an absolute leader in the congress tourism branch in the area with the capacity to host some 1200 delegates. Proximity of the new Tuscany; Konavle region which offers a great deal when it comes to sporting and incentive activities such as biking, quadding, four wheel vehicles driving or simply lounging back in one of its traditional cuisine restaurants and sipping your “vino” and enjoying your food, “peka” being my favorite.

If you are decided to book an apartment inside the city walls then you have decided to be the part of the local experience although you have to bear in mind that out of 4000 citizens who lived in the Old City before the war, there are only 1000 remaining. This means that your neighbor might easily be a fellow tourist like yourself. First and foremost it’s the timing of your holiday. The most ideal timing for families is the end of May because the school holidays have started, the Old City is relatively busy during the day because of the tourists from cruisers but it is peaceful during the evening hours which is great because it allows you to dine quietly al fresco in one of many local restaurants with your family. The only drawback is that sea is still a bit chilly so swimming as option might be ruled out although the recent climate changes have warmed the sea quicker than before.
In my opinion early September is the best time to enjoy the Old City as there are less crowds in the city, there is plenty of sun, sea is excellent for swimming. Needless to say that price wise you can get a better deal. Couple of things to consider when booking your accommodation. The Old City is pedestrianized zone. There are two main entrance gates: The Pile Gate and The Ploce Gate. In 90% of the cases is that you will end up at the Pile Gate which is also considered to be the main entrance. Make sure your luggage suitcase has wheels. In my opinion any accommodation booked as you enter the main street Stradun and you go in the first and second street on the left around caffe bar Festival will suit you perfect, in other words beginning of Prijeko Street as you enter Stradun. Also anything north of Ulica od Puča my favourite corner being around St Rocco church, this is where you will find the best pizza in the town in pizzeria Mea Culpa. If you prefer lively yet placid atmosphere then I suggest anything around Bunićeva Poljana. For your sunbathing and swimming I suggest Lokrum, 15 minutes ride by boat from the Old City port. You can read my blog on the island. Enjoy!!!

Dubrovnik is Croatia’ s the best known destination and as such it has a scope to achieve great potential in the luxury market segment. The appearance of added value determinants would have a huge impact on Croatia’s tourism industry at large. First we need to clarify what do we mean by added value and how does it translate in the terminology of the luxury market language.
Firstly by basic definition this is a free bit that adds to the value of the actual service. To illustrate by example in the luxury market if we book a room with a five star luxury hotel, their courtesy car free airport pick up would be a classic example of something which has further justified the value, in other words the price of our booking. If each five star hotel in Dubrovnik is to employ such a service measure how would this affect the transportation companies in Dubrovnik ?
Srđ Portolan, a member of Dubrovnik Luxury Travel management board states that five star hotels cannot offer such a service alone. Furthermore, Portolan believes that if hotels are to decide to subcontract those services to the transportation companies, this sector would be segmented accordingly. Srđ says that now there are transfer companies and agencies which do everything, luxury transfers and ordinary transfers in the same car but different price. Srđ continues to state that if luxury five star hotels are to offer a free excursion as a added value to the booking of their accommodation, the same applies and would lead to segmentation of travel agencies sector. Srđ Portolan states that in the luxury sector travel agencies must offer by default value added service. Srđ has devised DLT’s concierge service to the hire of luxury villas. Portolan has explained to us that free incentives are a must have service in the luxury market sector.
It appears to us that the introduction of added value determinants is a must when it came to the prosperity of Dubrovnik luxury travel sector.

When the cult series The Game of Thrones was filmed in Dubrovnik, Croatia, yes folks you have heard it right, The Game of Thrones was filmed in Dubrovnik to the delight of many locals who made some extra “bob” appearing in the series as extras. But to my disappointment, Dubrovnik Luxury travel did not manage to sponsor the series. Just joking here as I know that Dubrovnik Tourist Board and the city major welcomed the production house HBO as we are all aware and most certainly proud that our town was chosen as the set location and that of the benefits that the filming would bring to the tourism industry in Croatia and that would once again put Dubrovnik on the world map of must visit destinations.
However, there is another map I want to talk about, equally important as it involves one English king. That is of course Dubrovnik Luxury Travel Treasure Hunt map. This team building exercise is a clever invention of the guy who happens to be the owner of the boat rental agency in Dubrovnik, called Exclusive Charter Dubrovnik. Zlatko or Zlaja is so passionate about team building that he invented this unique team building exercise, Dubrovnik Treasure Hunt and he got involved professional actors from Dubrovnik Theatre Company so that the team building treasure hunters get even greater pleasure in this intriguing game. Dubrovnik Luxury travel was more than honoured when Zlaja chose this company to co-operate so that Dubrovnik Luxury travel became exclusive provider of this service.
I am almost certain that Zlaja lived in Dubrovnik Old town in his previous life as the head of one of Dubrovnik families who succeeded to persuade Richard the Lion Heart to build Dubrovnik’s second cathedral. Now where does island of Lokrum fit into this story. Well, my dear team building treasure hunters or for that matter families and friends who are visiting Dubrovnik, book Dubrovnik Luxury Travel Treasure Hunt to learn more. Dubrovnik Luxury travel guarantees you bundle of fun in this “ Game of Thrones”
Dubrovnik airport is by far the most sophisticated airport in Croatia. The drive from the Dubrovnik airport to the Dubrovnik city is a half an hour transfer. Dubrovnik Luxury Travel Darijan explained to me why is it better to make a pre-advanced booking. Buses are out of question as they are old and not consistent. There is no uniformed company that looks after the transport from and to Dubrovnik airport. Then there are taxi drivers. Unlike in the other European cities where taxis are easily recognizable this is not the case with Dubrovnik and what is more sometimes they can charge you an arm and a leg.
With pre-booked transfer from Dubrovnik airport to your hotel destination you are met and greeted by your driver who follows Dubrovnik Luxury Travel philosophy of being always professional, speaking fluent English, discreet yet at your disposal. And there is a question of reliability because Dubrovnik Luxury Travel luxury transfer vehicles are reliable, safe so this 30 minutes transfer passes in no time. If you happen to visit Dubrovnik with a group of friends then there is no other solution but to book Dubrovnik Luxury mini van. However, Dubrovnik Luxury Travel flexibility comes at work especially when the top luxury clients are involved. On one occasion Darijan was supposed to meet a wealthy businessman from Macau and his wife. They were supposed to stay at one of Dubrovnik’s top boutique hotels. When they were met by Darijan the wife was not pleased at all. The husband explained to Darijan that she insisted to arrive to her hotel via the sea. Darijan was cool as a cucumber and said yes. He transferred the couple from Dubrovnik airport to Cavtat, took them to Cavtat’s top restaurant for a brunch and organized a sea transfer from Cavtat to this luxury hotel before you knew it.
So next time when you “meet me at the airport” do request to arrive to your hotel from Dubrovnik airport by a helicopter, Dubrovnik Luxury Travel team will ensure that your wish comes true.
Rixos brand of luxury hotels is one of the fastest growing luxury accommodation brands in the world with plans to open 20 luxury hotels and villas worldwide by the year 2020. It already has 12 luxury hotels and villas in Turkey and it has recently opened premium luxury concept in its flagship hotels, Rixos premium Belek and Rixos premium Bodrum.
Rixos Libertas Dubrovnik is one of the pioneering hotels of Dubrovnik tourism. One of the first hotels in five star category built in the late 60’s it was pride and joy of Dubrovnik luxury accommodation and it was a well known congress centre, in fact it was the favourite conference centre together with five star luxury hotel Croatia in Cavtat. Both luxury hotels are specific in its own right.
Cavtat is a picturesque village in Konavli region of Dubrovnik and it is worth a visit for its authentic Croatian mode of living whilst Rixos Libertas Dubrovnik is ideally located, only 15 minutes walking distance from the Old city centre. However, Dubrovnik at war period reduced this pride of Dubrovnik luxury tourism to rubble and Libertas Dubrovnik was acquired by the Rixos group headed by charismatic and well respected Turkish businessman Fettah Tamince. Rixos group was loyal to the previous architectural concept which was in place and they implemented this concept having previously updated the hotel’s look to modern retro luxury accommodation.
It was indeed Mr.Tamince who turned to Dubrovnik Luxury Travel to secure his stay in Dubrovnik as he was hosting a formal opening ceremony for the hotel with more than 500 top VIP attendees.
So, when it comes to organizing logistics for top businessman, world leaders and actors, you mention the name of Kristian Vrbanic, even the president of Croatia will recognize this name. Who would not as this Dubrovnik Luxury Travel operations manager is a king in the Dubrovnik luxury market organisation world. Top Turkish politicians, businessmen, diplomats together with Saudi, Russian and European elite attended the official opening ceremony back in 2007. Kristian organized their smooth passage through the Dubrovnik airport. It was the first time that a fleet of luxury premium cars was allowed on the tarmac of Dubrovnik airport runaway thanks to Kristian’s organisation skills. He coordinated their arrival with Dubrovnik Luxury travel security team and Mr Tamince was more than happy. Job well done Mr Vrbanic.
Dubrovnik luxury hotels have caught up with the modern age and time. The classic term of a concierge has disappeared from Dubrovnik luxury accommodation and it has been replaced by guest relation services. The world of luxury travel demands high standards, no hotel on Dubrovnik Riviera has concierge service that would fetch you a bottle of your favorite eau de toilette if your hotel does not stock it. Dubrovnik luxury travel market attracts many wealthy and sophisticated clients.
The demand for a conventional shopping mall has not been met yet and wealthy clients are forced to take private tours from Dubrovnik to Split in premium luxury vehicles or for that matter private trips from Dubrovnik to Mostar. Some Russian clients are known to have taken a private shopping tour from Dubrovnik to Zagreb.
Dubrovnik Luxury travel has this unique concierge service which is open 24/7, in other words if you are after a bottle of Lagavulin at 2 o’ clock in the morning or if your wife wants that dress from top Croatian designer Xenia design but the shop does not have the size, concierge services from Dubrovnik luxury travel will fix it.
It is comprehensive service as you will have private luxury car at your disposal or private speed boat, access to top Dubrovnik boutiques and Dubrovnik top restaurants. Finally Dubrovnik is catching up with the likes of Cannes, Puerto Benus and other top luxury world destinations. So next time when I see a dog walker in Dubrovnik Lapad peninsula, I won’t be surprised, that would be confirmation that concierge services in Dubrovnik have taken off. Recently, a client of Dubrovnik luxury travel had an early flight to a European capital destination. On the previous night he went out for a meal in Dubrovnik restaurant and he enjoyed his red wine, but funnily enough, the restaurant run out of his favorite Golden Plavac, a wine from the island of Hvar.
It was an early start in the season, and the client could not purchase it from the wine shop so he googled Dubrovnik luxury travel concierge services and guess what Darijan sorted it out before the client’s flight departure from Dubrovnik airport at 5 o’clock in the morning. The clients are recognizing the advantages of Dubrovnik concierge service convenience and we are certain that this unique service has a future. However, the concierge services offered by Dubrovnik Luxury travel are not only restricted to Dubrovnik but they are 24/7 available in other Croatian cities like Split, Zadar, Zagreb. So next time when you think of your favorite thingy which you miss on your holiday, think of Dubrovnik luxury travel concierge services.
A lot has been written on the topic of 10 things to do when in Dubrovnik. However what does Dubrovnik and its surrounding Dubrovnik Riviera offer for a luxury traveler?
Apart from the obvious the trips from Dubrovnik to Montenegro and the one from Dubrovnik to Mostar which are on offer in the luxury seaters and luxury premium cars there is very little on offer which is genuinely marketed as Dubrovnik luxury travel that is to say local luxury travel experience. Many would pose a question why would a trip from Dubrovnik to Kotor or that from Dubrovnik to Mostar would be classified as a luxury travel just because it is on offer in the luxury vehicle without champagne and strawberries. The key lies in the choice of the route and the experience of the guide accompanying the tour. Almost all routes from Dubrovnik to Kotor would go through Boka Bay but very few have an organised boat visit to this magic island of the Lady of the Rocks which is situated off the little town of Perast. When it comes to the trip from Dubrovnik to Mostar many tours do not include the visit to this magical gem of nature that are Kravice watterfalls. The key concept of local experience plays also a key role especially in the world of luxury travel.
As for the Dubrovnik region a lot has been written about Peljesac region wines and oysters. A luxury traveler is quite often a synonym for someone with a well paid job, well educated person who wants to experience the taste of Croatia and Dubrovnik. But it is also a type of a traveler who wants to share a unique experience. A trip from Dubrovnik to Ston may offer you a visit to an oyster farm on a private boat trip, or share that unique experience that is a visit to the botanical garden and seeing the widest plane tree in Europe. And there is also a visit to Konavle region from Dubrovnik and that famous Dalmatian experience of “peka”, lamb and potatoes specially prepared under a bell, yes quite really a metal bell, on the top of which is fire ash, a slow cooking process with a scrummy end result that are mouth watering potatoes and juicy meat. And if you have visited Dubrovnik wine trail you would know that a bottle of rich flavored red wine Postup would go down well with this meal.
To summarize, luxury travel in Dubrovnik is all about that extra mile that Dubrovnik luxury travel companies are prepared to go, it is about offering that unique experience with special care and attention offered on that personal level.
